Environment is no one's property to destroy, it's everyone's responsibility to protect - Mohith Agadi
Meaning of Environment
Environment is a word derived from French 'environer' - that which surround, enclose or encircle.
This leads to questions like
i) Who is surrounded?  ii) By what  surrounded?  iii) Where surrounded?
The answer to the first question is considered to be living beings including and mainly humans. What all surrounds man ? to this question the answer arises if we just look around us. The abundant air, huge mountains, swifty rivers, lushy forests,  chirping birds , fierce animals and the list goes on.  The ultimate space is the answer for where surrounded.  Therefore, Environment is aggregate of all surrounding things and  conditions or influences that enclose human at a given point in space and time.

Types of Environment and its Components
There are two kinds of environment
- Natural Environment and
 - Man-made Environemnt

 1. Natural Environment
One which is created by nature is termed as natural environment.  It consits of air, water, land, forests , mountains living organisms like animals, birds, reptiles etc. as its elements.  It is characterised by the equilibrium nature that is any change in one component of the system will counter balanced by changes in other components of the environment.  Natural environment is also termed as geographical environemnt as it comprises of terrestrial components earth surface, mountains, deserts , plains , pleateaus etc., However the components of natural environment are interdependent and related with each other.
The natural environment is further divided into
i) Biotic components / Living components
ii) Abiotic components / Non-living components
2. Man-made Environment
This refers to the artificial environemnt created by man. Man employing the developments in the fields of science and technology as developed an environment which suits and more helpful to mankind.
This includes the modern transport facilities like metros, city infrastructures, communication facilities, producing power from various natural resources with the advantage of evolving technologies.
Environmental Education
The adherence of human beings with nature gradually reduces with the advancement and his affiliation with development of Science and Technology.  It has gone to the extent that man has completely lost the memories of his origin and heads to something strange whose end nobody can predict. So the environmentalists all over the world gave a wake up call that there should be some system  or process that aims at equipping people with the knowledge about our environment and develop the attitude , skills and motivation that they require to support and resolve environmental issues.
